OC Boardwalk performers continue to protest

An amendment was made to the Ocean City town ordinance concerning the boardwalk performers Monday night at the town council meeting.
The ordinance requires performers to sign up twice a week for designated spots on the boardwalk and according to town documents, the change would add Boardwalk performing to the list of municipal infractions.
According to the same documents, that means any violation of the ordinance would mean a fine of no less than $25 and no more than a thousand.
Since the new ordinance took effect almost a month ago, performers say personal profits are significantly down.
“Since these regulations have in place my income has dropped, has tanked dramatically,” said Joseph Smith, a boardwalk musician who goes by the stage name Josini.”I’m doing maybe about 40 percent of what I used to do.”
Since the ordinance was passed the boardwalk performers have continuously protested its implementation.
