Child Airlifted, Two Others Injured in Rollover Crash in Long Neck

LONG NECK, Del. – One child was airlifted and two others were injured in a rollover car crash that occurred on Tuesday evening.

On Aug. 25 around 7:20 p.m., the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company (IRVFC) and Lewes Fire Department were alerted for a vehicle accident with entrapment on Long Neck Road. Emergency crews arrived and found a yellow Fiat 500L on its side, with three individuals trapped inside.

Crews worked to clean debris, stabilize the vehicle, and tend to the patients ahead of preparing and establishing an aviation zone for Delaware State Police (DSP) Aviation.

IRVFC says it appears that the Fiat was traveling on Long Neck Road when it failed to negotiate the curve, running over the berm striking fencing and trees before rolling over. One pediatric patient was airlifted from the scene, while two others were transported by ambulance for care.

The Delaware State Fire Police assisted with traffic control and scene access for the duration of the incident. DSP is investigating the crash.
