15-Year-Old Charged after Police Chase Across State Lines

SEAFORD, Del. – A 15-year-old was arrested after police say he led them on a vehicle pursuit across state lines.

Just before 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 22, Seaford Police received a report of a stolen vehicle from a residence in the 500 block of East Poplar Street. Officers received a positive hit for the vehicle from local cameras and were able to locate it within the city’s jurisdiction. However, as officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the car fled at a high rate of speed.

Officers pursued the vehicle into Maryland, at which point Maryland State Police (MSP) took over primary pursuit duties. A Maryland agency successfully utilized spike strips, resulting in the stolen vehicle coming to a stop in the area of the Queenstown outlets. The driver surrendered without further incident; a passenger of the vehicle fled and was not located.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as a 15-year-old juvenile male from Darlington, Maryland. He was found to have felony warrants for his arrest in Maryland.

He was taken into custody by the MSP, and charged with theft of a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property over $1,500, second-degree conspiracy, reckless driving, and related traffic offenses.
