Delaware Probation officers conducting home checks to make sure sex offenders homes are clear of halloween decorations
DELAWARE- The Delaware Department of corrections is taking proactive steps to make sure this Halloween, kids aren’t knocking on the wrong doors, where a sex offender could answer.
Across the state sex, offenders will be getting visits from parole officers to make sure their homes have no Halloween decorations out, and that their lights inside and on the porch will be turned off so as to not attract visitors.
This applies to over 400 homes across the state.
Agents say parents should be on the lookout for homes without any decorations to prevent any contact.
“If you are taking your kids out and you see a home that has no lights on, the porch light that’s a universal language that this is not a home to be visited,” said Probation Supervisor at DOC Samuel Dowling.
Dowling says a violation would see consequences, depending on the severity of the violation, but they say thanks to the program there has not been a violation by an offender in the state in over a decade.
