NWS confirms two tornadoes in Talbot County

TALBOT CO. – The National Weather Service has confirmed that two tornadoes touched down near Trappe on Tuesday evening. Both tornadoes occurred minutes apart and formed from the same supercell thunderstorm.

The first tornado touched down around 6:12pm, striking an industrial park on Backtown Road just east of U.S. Route 50. The tornado damaged several businesses, removing a roof from a large warehouse. A nearby home and trees were damaged as well. The tornado was rated an EF-1 with max winds of 90-100 mph.

The second tornado occurred a few minutes later at around 6:18, touching down near Tarbutton Mill Road just west of U.S. Route 50. Two farm buildings in the area sustained roof damage with convergent damage associated with tornadic winds observed in a nearby corn field. This tornado was rated an EF-0 with max winds of 70-80 mph.

No injuries were reported with either tornado.
