Hi Delmarva!
My name is Sam Leppo. I joined WMDT’s Storm Team in April 2026. I was born and raised across the Bay in Carroll County, Md., before attending Millersville University, where I graduated with a B.S. in Meteorology. Despite my roots, I used to visit the Eastern Shore as a kid and have always been fascinated by the unique weather events the Delmarva Peninsula often experiences, most notably coastal storms.
I have been captivated by the weather since a very young age, often becoming fixated on local news stations during major weather events. This continued through middle and high school, once I realized it was a career path I wanted to pursue. The event that solidified meteorology as my passion was the Blizzard of 2016. While Delmarva didn’t see much snow, back home, a whopping 30 inches accumulated, the most snow I had ever seen from a single storm. Having experienced that firsthand is what solidified my desire to go to school for meteorology and eventually become a broadcast meteorologist.
Throughout high school and college, I operated a forecasting Facebook page focused on Central Maryland, which helped hone my forecasting and weather communication skills. While in college, I regularly assisted with creating forecasts for the university and was also a student lead on a tornado research project called Project TILLTING.
In my free time, you can find me outdoors, exercising, or exploring the area. I’m excited to get to know the community! If you have any weather photos you’d like to share, email me at sam_leppo@wmdt.com!
