Traffic stop in Dover ends with one in handcuffs, and a gun off the street

A traffic stop in Dover, lands one man behind bars on drug and weapons charges.
Dover Police says on Tuesday morning, around 10:50 AM, Officers with Dover PD Safe Streets Unit stopped 20-year-old Ezri Turner in the parking lot of Royal Farms on South DuPont Highway, for a traffic violation. According to the report, Turner tried to flee on foot, and struggled with Officers as the tried to take him into custody.
Eventually Officers were apparently able to take him into custody, and found that Turner had a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun, and 21.6 grams of marijuana on him. Police say the serial number on the handgun had been obliterated. One Officer apparently suffered a laceration to their leg in the struggle.
Turner was then charged with possession with intent to deliver marijuana, possession of firearm during commission of a felony, possession of weapon with removed serial number, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of firearm by person prohibited – previous felony conviction, resisting arrest with force – felony resisting, assault 3rd degree – Officer’s injury, possession of marijuana with aggravating factor, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal mischief, and a traffic violation for failure to signal.
He is now being held at James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on $29,650 cash bond.
