Salisbury marathon draws runners nationwide, boosts local community impact

SALISBURY, Md. — Hundreds of runners laced up their sneakers this weekend as the RunSBY Events returned to Delmarva, bringing energy, tourism and community support to the area.

The annual race, which includes a full marathon, half marathon and 5K, continues to grow as one of the largest running events in Wicomico County, attracting participants from across the country. Organizers say the event not only promotes health and fitness, but also gives back to the local community.

Races began early Saturday morning, with marathon and half marathon runners starting at 7 a.m. and 5K participants following shortly after. The course is designed to be flat and fast, giving runners a chance to achieve personal bests.

Organizers say more than 1,000 runners typically participate, helping generate support for local nonprofits through stipends and community partnerships tied to the event.

For many runners, the race is about more than competition.

“I came down from Pennsylvania for my first half marathon,” said participant Emily Carter. “But what stood out most was the community. People cheering you on, volunteers helping—it really feels like you’re part of something bigger.”

Local volunteers also play a key role in making the event possible, assisting with everything from packet pickup to on-course support.

“We look forward to this every year,” said volunteer Marcus Reed. “It’s a chance to give back while bringing positive attention to Salisbury.”

Organizers say the goal is to continue growing the event while maintaining its community focus.

The event marked its eighth year in 2026, continuing a tradition of combining athletic achievement with local impact.
