Former Accomack Cheer Coach Faces Felony Charges
ACCOMACK CO. Va. — Prosecutors have filed several drug and firearm charges against Arcadia High School’s former cheerleading coach, Deangela Renee Morton. The charges against Morton were filed Oct. 22.
She was taken into custody at her residence in Hallwood, Virginia, where she lives with her two children.
Court documents obtained by WMDT show that Morton has been charged with possession with intent to distribute more than 5 pounds of marijuana; possession of a firearm while in possession with the intent to distribute more than 1 pound of marijuana and a Schedule I or II drug; possession with intent to distribute marijuana; two counts of possession of a Schedule I or II drug; possession of a firearm while in possession of a Schedule I or II drug; and abuse and neglect of children.
Records show that the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office seized more than 5 pounds of marijuana, MDMA (also known as ecstasy), and psilocybin mushrooms from her home at the time of the arrest. The controlled substances were found in various plastic bags around the home, unsecured in a common area.
More than $6,000, an electronic money counter and a semi-automatic shotgun with a loaded magazine were also found in the home. At least two children under age 18 reside at the residence.
WMDT reached out to the defendant’s attorney, Kenneth Singleton, who declined to comment on the charges.
In a statement to WMDT, Accomack County Public Schools Public Information Officer Danielle Clark said Morton “was a volunteer cheer coach since the fall of 2022,” adding that she was not an employee of ACPS and has since been removed from the coaching roster.
