Worcester Tech’s automotive program receives 4 retired SUVs by donation
WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. – Thanks to a special donation from the Worcester County government. Students at Worcester Technical have the chance to further their education even more.’
The county government donated 4 Chevy Tahoe SUVs to the school. The old Sheriff vehicles found a new purpose. According to Couty Commissioner President Ted Elder, the group planned for the vehicles to be used for something else.
“We had some old sheriff cars that were going to go on our gov auction,” said President Elder. “It shows that it would be far more valuable to have these cars donated, rather than any kind of monetary value we would assume from them.”
With officials gifting the Worcester Tech automotive program the keys and titles. The expectation is that this will make education more efficient for students, which is something all County Commissioners prioritize.
This donation will be of great assistance to the students’ education. Tony Saullo, their instructor, said his job is a little less difficult.
“The good thing about the Tahoes is that we have 4 identical vehicles, and a lot of times you’re teaching different tasks to students, and we have several makes and models. We don’t have any that are the same.”
Saullo believes the trucks will breathe fresh life into the workshop.
“They are not totally beat up, and we opened the door, they maintained the inside. Some donations we get here are really at the end of life. They are dirty, scummy, and smelly. Most of the kids don’t want to work on them.”
Residents and businesses can support the AT program by donating working vehicles to WTHS. Contact the Worcester County Public Schools’ Finance Office by calling (410) 632-5063.
