Proposed bill would ban plastic packaging in Delaware

DELAWARE – Delaware lawmakers recently proposed a new bill that would limit the use of some types of plastic packaging.

Senate Bill 263 would prohibit the use of rings or plastic connectors that are used to package beverage containers. It also encourages the use of sustainable beverage packing that can already be found in use. The bill is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to reduce waste and minimize the impacts to the environment.

“In coastal Delaware, most people source their livelihood directly or indirectly based on healthy beaches, healthy oceans, this beautiful marine life that people enjoy seeing. So it’s a small price to pay,” said MERR Institute Executive Director Suzanne Thurman.

The bill is currently awaiting consideration in the Environment, Energy & Transportation committee.
