UPDATE: Charges Dismissed in Connection with Rehoboth “Takeover” Event

UPDATE: The Delaware Attorney General is dismissing all charges filed against three Delaware State University students in connection with the recent “Takeover” event in Rehoboth Beach.

In a statement released by the Delaware Department of Justice (DOJ) spokesperson Mat Marshall, the department said there was nothing to substantiate the charges.

“The Attorney General has found no factual basis to charge the defendants in the so-called ‘Rehoboth Takeover’ case (Xander Nicholl, Angelin Clauvil, Keyon Scott, and Eric Barnett) with any criminal offense, and has directed prosecutors to dismiss all charges against all four defendants,” the statement read in full.

However, the City of Rehoboth Beach says they have not been contacted by the Delaware DOJ regarding the dismissal of the aforementioned charges. In a statement to WMDT, the City said the following:

The City of Rehoboth Beach has not been contacted by the Department of Justice regarding reports that charges arising from the May 19 beach takeover incident have been dismissed.  Based on our current understanding, it does not appear that all relevant facts and circumstances have yet been fully reviewed.  As such, we believe further explanation regarding the reported disposition of these charges would be beneficial to both the City and the public. In addition, the City has reached out to Fleur McKendall of the NAACP to arrange a meeting and discuss these matters. At this time, we have not yet received a response, but remain willing to engage in a constructive dialogue.

WMDT will continue to update this story as details are made available.

UPDATE: The Rehoboth Beach Police Department says three men connected to a “Takeover” event on the beach and boardwalk have turned themselves into authorities.

On Thursday morning, police said Keyon Scott, Xander Nicholl, and Angelin Clauvil turned themselves in at RBPD. All three were charged with intent to commit or facilitate a riot and second degree conspiracy. They were arraigned, released on their own recognizance, and issued a no contact order with the City of Rehoboth Beach.

However, police say 21-year-old Eric Barnett of Saint Albans, New York, remains wanted.
