Town of Easton Asks for Public Response on Hospital Land
(EASTON, Md) – Progress continues to be made on the new hospital being built on Route 50 in Easton, but what about the land where the hospital currently sits?
Easton Planning and Zoning Director, Miguel Salinas says they’ve been fielding ideas from the public throughout the previous week on what to do with the land once the new hospital is built.
Salinas tells WMDT, “We have a design and production team of landscape architects, architects, urban planners who work with the community to come up with alternative development scenarios for what will be the former hospital site.”
A couple of people we spoke to have ideas for the space to not only help with alleviating traffic congestion heading in and out of downtown Easton, but being highly beneficial as well.
“I actually would like to see it be something, generate it towards the youth. The kids, they give them something extra to do,” says Antoine Johnson of Trappe.
While Tara Wilson, who works just a couple of blocks up the road from the hospital says, “Currently, I hope they would keep some of the parking still available for the small shops and the different events they throw throughout the town, so that people have somewhere to park. It gets really tight on these historic streets.”
And while the feedback period has ended, the town is not taking any chances on what’s a golden ticket for reshaping downtown.
“This is a tremendous opportunity, a once in a generation opportunity to really create something special on what’s going to be the former hospital site,” says Salinas.
The hospital on Route 50 is still on track to open in 2028.
