UPDATE:Identity of victim in Fruitland murder investigation released

Douglas Harlow, 47, of Fruitland, Maryland

Court documents have been released that identify the body that was found in Fruitland on Tuesday.

Officials say that Monday night, Fruitland Police received a call regarding a possible burial site in the 100 block of South Division Street in Fruitland, Maryland. On Tuesday, state police investigators arrived on scene and began an "excavation" process that uncovered a decomposing body wrapped in a blanket, so investigators immediately called the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit and Criminal Enforcement Division for assistance.

After being sent to the chief medical examiners office on Wednesday for a full autopsy, the body was able to be identified as that of 63-year-old Ronnie Mackert.

A witness came forward to police this week with details about a homicide that apparently happened in February or March. The woman went on to tell police that that Douglas Harlow, 47, was involved in an altercation with Mackert, assaulted him, and then kicked him out of the house during a night of drinking with friends. She says she saw Mackert alive at some point after the altercation, but that later found him dead of an apparent stab wound.

Officials say that around 10PM on Tuesday night, Harlow was taken into police custody without incident at a trailer park in Salisbury. Investigators from the Maryland State Apprehension Team and the Maryland State Police Gang Unit transported him to the Salisbury Barrack for processing, and then took him to the Wicomico County Detention Center.

Harlow is being charged with first and second degree murder, first degree assault, reckless endangerment, assault with a deadly weapon, and improper disposal of a body, and is waiting to be seen by the District Court Commissioner in Wicomico County.

This investigation is still reported to be ongoing.
