“I am absolutely excited:” First Boys & Girls Club on Eastern Shore Opens

CAMBRIDGE, Md.- You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take.

Well in Cambridge, the city took that shot, and because of it they can proudly say they opened the first Boys and Girls Club on the Eastern Shore.

“Wow, I am absolutely excited sometimes I have to pinch myself,” Gabriel Butler, Club Manager, said.

The center just opened its doors for summer camp on Monday.

With the help of the Boys and Girls Club of Metropolitan Baltimore, the city is now able to open more doors for the Cambridge youth.

“A host of different programs to excel in their learning because the learning curve Kinda was on stagnant with COVID-19 virtual learning,” Butler said.

“Not only just learn, but reach and explore and have their eyes completely open to the opportunities in the future that they have in front of them,” Butler said.

We’re told opening this facility not only comes at the right time to help with the impacts of COVID, but also lift people’s spirits.

“The boys and girls club is a bright light, a breath of fresh air in the community we have suffered so many losses some murders, house fires different things that families are really stressed,” Butler said.

While the work is just getting started at the club, the Mayor says he looks forward to seeing how this center will create change in the community.
And when these kids see their potential- it will make them excited to do bigger things.

“That’s going to keep people in the area it’s going to expand the workforce and it’s going to allow people to grow into productive individuals and adults that are going to be contributory to their families and the growth of the community,” Mayor Andrew Bradshaw said.
