UPDATE: One Arrested, Three at Large in Connection with Dover Shooting
UPDATE: The Dover Police Department has arrested a 16-year-old male in connection with a shooting that damaged multiple homes and cars last month.
Officers have arrested a 16-year-old of Dover on the following charges:
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
- 14 counts of Reckless Endangering First Degree
- 12 counts of Discharging a Firearm at a Vehicle
- Person Under 21 Prohibited from Possessing a Firearm
- Person Under 21 Prohibited from Possessing Ammunition
- Conspiracy Second Degree
- 17 counts of Criminal Mischief
As their investigation progressed over the past several weeks, detectives were able to identify additional victims and property damage beyond what was initially reported. The shooting ultimately impacted four occupied residences, one unoccupied residence, and 12 vehicles struck by gunfire; resulting in a total of 29 victims. Investigators say they believe that a single person was the intended target of this incident.
A few days later on Jul. 9, the Dover 16-year-old was arrested on unrelated charges after officers discovered a loaded 9mm handgun concealed in his waistband. Subsequent forensic examination determined the handgun was one of the four firearms discharged during the Jul. 6 shooting. Police say further evidence led to the 16-year-old juvenile being identified as one of the shooters.
As a result of the investigation, officers obtained an arrest warrant for the juvenile male on Aug. 3. He was already incarcerated at the Stevenson House in Milford on unrelated charges when the warrant was obtained; he remains held there.
Detectives continue to actively investigate this incident and are seeking the identities of the remaining three suspects involved in the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Criminal Investigations Unit at (302) 736-7111.
