OC fire agreement still not reached with city council

The debate revolving around a potential fire agreement between the town of Ocean City and its firefighters.

During a city council meeting Monday, Ocean City Attorney Guy Ayres says the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) on the island rejected the city’s “best and last” deal for a 12-hour shift schedule.

That schedule would include 2-days on and two days off for four different shifts of firefighters. Ayres says the IAFF rejected that offer, so no agreement or collective bargaining was reached again.

During the city council meeting, Ayres said a resolution must be met by April 15th.

So far, the firefighters say they want to keep their current schedule which consists of 24 hour shifts.

Whichever is decided upon will go into effect in 2017.
