AEW & ROH Invades Wicomico Civic Center
SALISBURY, Md. – All Elite Wrestling is in Salisbury for a 2-night doubleheader at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center, and one of the show’s major attractions features Sussex County, Delaware legend Mark Briscoe. Briscoe is a graduate of Laurel High School and has turned into one of the sport’s biggest stars.
“Since we were kids, the biggest time of the year was when wrestling came to the Civic Center, because we got to watch it in person live at the Civic Center in Salisbury,” Briscoe says
The pro wrestling company is invading the crossroads of Delmarva with two massive shows. The Ring of Honor Supercard of Honor, and AEW
Collision on Saturday.
Briscoe says Delmarva should not miss these shows.
“AEW and Ring of Honor, we are about getting down into the ring, the action between the ropes, where the best wrestling is not just a slogan, or a motto, it’s the truth, where the best wrestling happens,” he said.
Since its inception in 2019 under the leadership of CEO Tony Khan, All Elite Wrestling has emerged as the first genuine mainstream professional wrestling alternative in over 20 years.
They tour the United States and internationally. Briscoe says some of his best matches are with guys like Jay Lethal, Roderick Strong, and Kyle Fletcher.
He believes Delmarva has always been a hotbed for true pro wrestling.
“This is wrestling, this is wrestling folks, this is wrestling country, pro wrestling, people around here love wrestling” Briscoe says.
Briscoe’s life hasn’t been without its struggles; in 2023 he experienced the profound loss of his older brother, Jay Briscoe, who died in a car crash. They had been wrestling partners since 2001, achieving a remarkable 13 ROH Tag Team championships and earning induction into the Hall of Fame in 2022.
Briscoe wrestles in honor of his brother.
“Every place I go, every town I go, I feel like I’m carrying the Briscoe brothers, not just Mark Briscoe, but the Briscoe brothers. And just keep on grinding, that’s our identity, we grinders, we are not complacent. We’re just going to keep on keeping on, run it until the wheels fall off,” he says.
AEW plans to continue the momentum heading into the summer, with big shows upcoming like AEW Double or Nothing to round out May, a dual promotion with New Japan Pro Wrestling, Forbidden Door in June, and of course, All In at Wembley Stadium in London.
Tickets are still available for the shows at the Civic Center tonight and tomorrow night – just head to AEWTix.com.
