Local organization hosting free mock traffic stop program
LEWES, Del. – A local organization is teaming up with police to help people living with autism be more comfortable behind the wheel.
On October 23rd, the Delaware Network for Excellence in Autism is hosting a live practice traffic stop program. Folks with Autism can experience a mock traffic stop, which can often times be an over-stimulating situation.
They’ll receive one-on-one feedback from police, and director of DNEA, Alisha Fletcher is helping to organize the event. She said it will help familiarize people with heightened sensory issues to the sights and sounds that are around them during a traffic stop.
“It’s a very, sort of, family-fun event that has kind of a casual feel and start to it, to try to alleviate any stress or anxiety that the participant might have,” said Fletcher.
The program will take place from 3-7pm at Cape Henlopen State Park. To register, you can visit CDS.UDEL/DNEA/MockDriving.
