Millville Volunteer Fire Company Celebrates 90 Years of Service

MILLVILLE, Del.– The Millville Volunteer Fire Company opened their doors in 1936 and now there celebrating ninety years of serving their community.

Public Information Officer Gary Caunitis says the ninetieth celebration isn’t just a time for celebration but a time of reflection.

“It’s just really exciting to see how we’ve changed over the last ninety years and just how the area has changed,” Caunitis said. “And this is a time to really reflect back and see those changes kind of culminate together in this ninety year celebration.”

Volunteer firefighter Stephen Hess says the reason he wanted to join the Millville Fire Company was because he was looking for a change of pace.

“One of the first things that I wanted to do was join my local community firehouse and see how my education experience could perhaps benefit this fire department,” Hess said.

EMS Chief Guy Rickards says the ninetieth celebration means a lot to him because the Millville Fire company runs deep in his family history.

“Well, ninety years is a long time and I can remember the fire service when I first joined,” Rickards says. “My great grandfather was actually a charter member so I have history here.”

This weekend the Millville Volunteer Fire Company is hosting a open house to not only celebrate ninety years of service but to celebrate the community that has stood behind them since the beginning.
