No Kings Protest to be held at Salisbury City Park Saturday
SALISBURY, Md. – Several groups are partnering for a “No Kings” protest Saturday at Salisbury City Park. The event is organized in opposition to the Trump administration.
Groups such as Crabs on the Shore, Worcester Indivisible and others are organizing the protest.
However, Sheriff Mike Lewis of the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office said deputies are preparing to ensure the protest remains peaceful.
“We welcome demonstrators and protesters; it’s going to be done in a very peaceful fashion. And we encourage them to do that; that’s their right. That’s what a democracy is all about,” Lewis said.
Lana Foley, President of Crabs on the Shore, said the protest is a way for community members to stand up for their beliefs.
“We’re getting together for something that is weighing on our hearts, souls and minds,” she said.
More than 500 people have signed up to attend. According to Foley, the group is not promoting hatred of President Donald Trump. She said the protest supports minority groups.
“Nobody has anything against Trump. Trump is a person. It definitely comes down to the policy or the way things are done or handled,” she said.
Across the country, groups are holding protests against the Trump administration. Lewis said if things become unruly, his department will step in.
“If it turns violent or deadly, they start harming one another or innocent people, if they start damaging any property – that will not be tolerated and will be handled very swiftly,” he said.
Foley emphasized that the group does not intend to incite violence.
“We know that our group would never be the instigator as far as violence is concerned. That’s not who we are. We are called woke for a reason – we are the sensitive ones, I think,” she said.
