Weather Tidbits: Pollen

This edition of Weather Tidbits will be discussing pollen. Pollen is a fine to coarse powdery substance produced by most plants. It is part of the plant’s reproductive process, fertilizing other plants as the wind or bugs, such as bumblebees, carry the pollen from one plant to the other. There are four different kinds of pollen. There’s tree pollen, grass pollen, mold pollen, and weed pollen. Tree pollen is most common during the springtime. Grass pollen peaks during the early to mid-summer. Weed pollen is most present from late summer to fall, specifically up to when the first freeze of the season occurs. Mold pollen can be present during the summer and fall. Nearly 1 in 6 Americans have seasonal allergies. Symptoms can include sneezing, congestion, and watery eyes along with other cold-like symptoms.
