Cambridge CWI releases Mid-Year report finding infrastructure projects are ahead of schedule

CAMBRIDGE, Md – In its Mid-Year report on the Cambridge Waterfront revitalization project, Cambridge Waterfront  Development Incorporated announces that much of the groundwork has been laid in its efforts on the waterfront district.

The group says many of the parcels have been fully identified to be bid on by members of the business community, with a total demolition of existing buildings on the land completed as of August of this year.

The group says some of the raw materials from the demolition were recycled into the project’s development allowing for lower costs, and lead time.

“We’re ahead of schedule on our design of the public utilities and public spaces, we have funding to complete that, and we expect to get that done probably by the end of this year, maybe early next year, along the. Along the same lines, advancing our ability to form partnerships with some significant developers who are activation partners, for example, we are in a kind of final due diligence with a hotel developer,” said CWDI Spokesman Matt Leonard.

Cambridge Mayor Steven Rideout tells 47ABC he is excited to see the plan for the Cambridge Habor take shape, after being contemplated by the town for over 30 years. He tells us beating the schedule can also make the project more attractive to businesses who are looking to join, with Leonard confirming that the expression of interest period for businesses that closed last November has still left the door open for new projects looking to come to the space.

“It’s a potential of a hotel, a housing, retail, other businesses, part of all of what has to really happen is we you know, if we’re going to be able to bring businesses in, we need to be training people who can become employed in those businesses, have that workforce,” said Rideout said.

CWDI said any conversations with potential businesses remain confidential, despite some plans including the hotel, and new building for the YMCA being used in mock-ups in the plan, Leonard confirms to 47ABC that all those are still tentative and no organizations or businesses have yet committed to the space.
