Route 589 in Ocean Pines reopens following repair project

OCEAN PINES, Md. – A stretch of Route 589 in Ocean Pines has reopened following a two week long slope repair project.

The reopening was confirmed Monday afternoon with the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration. According to Denise Sawyer, Ocean Pines marketing and public relations director, all lanes of Route 589 at Turville Creek, just south of Gum Point Road, are officially open to through traffic.

The project was originally expected to take eight weeks to complete, however, crews were reportedly able to complete the project in just two weeks’ time.

Shantee Felix, spokeswoman for State Highway Administration (SHA), told us that crews were able to assemble the cranes in a weeks’ time, working around the clock afterwards to complete the remaining work in under a week.
