Meet The Candidates: Wicomico County Districts 5 And 6

Salisbury, Md. – After Wicomico County Council redrew their county council district lines to add two more districts, Wicomico County’s fifth district now encompasses parts of Salisbury, Parsonsburg and Delmar and no longer includes Pittsville or Willards.

The race for the county council’s fifth district seat is between Democrat Aaron Sadberry and Republican Joe White.

Sadberry is an engineer and says he ran to tackle local issues and says he’s advocating for the town of Delmar, he’s for a revenue cap and against local cooperation with federal agents.

“The big thing is we just have to work together. We got to know that you’re not always going to be right. That’s the big thing,” he said.

White is a small business owner and has said he wants to focus on economic development, maintaining the revenue cap and is supportive of local participation in federal immigration operations.

“There are opportunities for Wicomico County, and I believe with my knowledge, I can help expand those,” White said.

As for the seat up for grabs for the new sixth district which now encompasses parts of Willards, Pittsville and part of Salisbury, the race is between Democrat Sarah Ashley and Republican Michael “Hooch” Houck.

At 28 years old, Ashley is the youngest of the candidates up for election in the county and holds a master’s in marine science, she has said she’s running on environmental protection and funding for education.

“It’s not about party distinction. It’s not about our personal agenda. At the end of the day, it’s about the people of Wicomico County,” Ashley said.

Houck is a former Deputy at the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office and has said his priorities are public safety, supporting local businesses and responsible spending.

“We may not agree 100% on everything, but I’m willing to listen and take what’s best from our community and bring it forward,” he said.

Voters will have the opportunity to make their voices heard during Early Voting and on Election Day.
