John Atkins wins Republican nomination for DE House District 41

Salisbury, Md. – John Atkins has won the Republican nomination for House District 41.

“I am humbled and incredibly grateful for everyone who voted, volunteered, put up a sign, made a phone call, shared a post, attended an event, or simply offered a word of encouragement over these past 10 months,” Atkins said on a Facebook post.

Atkins is a former House delegate who previously served the 41st district for 12 years before resigning in 2007 over a domestic violence charge. In 2014, he lost the Republican nomination to Collins.

In the race for the Republican nominee in the 41tst District, Atkins is defeated his opponents  Doug Conaway and Jacki Slonin with a total of 1,546 votes while Conaway currently has 1,479 and Slonin has 149. Atkins’ won the primary with almost 49% of the total votes. These results are still unofficial and WMDT will update with certified results.

He said he reached out to Conaway and Slonin, something he has “never done before,” saying “I want to congratulate both Doug and Jacki for putting their names on the ballot and participating in the process. Running for public office takes time, commitment and sacrifice.”

“The primary is behind us,” he wrote. “Now it’s time to come together and move forward. Whether you voted for me or not, my commitment is the same. I will work for everyone in the 41st District. I will never forget the trust you have placed in me. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.”

His priorities have included easing burdens on small businesses and making common-sense cuts to raise state revenue. Atkins will face Ryan Stuckey in the general election on Nov. 3.
