BREAKING: WMDT projects Rep. Alonna Berry wins Democratic nomination for DE House District 20

Salisbury, Md. – WMDT projects Rep. Alonna Berry will win the Democratic nomination for Delaware House District 20, which encompasses communities such Lewes, Milton and Rehoboth Beach.

Following the results, Berry released the following statement:

“I am proud of what we accomplished together. This victory shows that our community acknowledges the challenges before us and recognizes that we are always stronger when we face them together,” Berry said in a statement following election results. “Thank you to the people of District 20 for continuing to place your trust in me. Hope always wins. Togetherness always wins. Let’s keep investing in hope, pushing for the promise of a better tomorrow and showing up as neighbors helping neighbors. Together, we will carry this momentum toward a strong Democratic victory in November.”

Berry’s campaign officials said throughout her campaign, she has “emphasized unity, service, and the power of neighbors working together to strengthen their community.”

Berry currently serves as the representative for District 20. This will be her first full term after a special election last year. In the race for the Democratic nominee in the 20th District, Rep. Berry is projected defeats her opponent Ruby Schaeffer with a total of 2,795 votes while Schaeffer has 1,313. WMDT is projecting her victory with almost 69% amount of votes while the Delaware Board of Election reports that 91% of election districts having submitted their results. These results are still unofficial and WMDT will update with certified results.

Berry’s legislative priorities have been focus on health care, infrastructure and education.

Berry will face Republican nominee Gene Dvornick during the General Election on Nov. 3.
