Rescue Crews Find Abandoned Car While Responding to Millsboro Crash
MILLSBORO, Del. – Rescue crews located an abandoned vehicle while responding to a car crash in Millsboro on Monday morning.
At 10:50 a.m. on Oct. 12, crews with the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company (IRVFC) were alerted to a vehicle accident on Mount Joy Road, near Lawson Road. The crash was reported to be a single vehicle rollover with damage to nearby above ground utility box.
Emergency units responded to stabilize the vehicle, a maroon SUV, and recover fluid and debris from the scene. The appropriate utility service provider was notified of the damage to the electrical box. Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.
An initial evaluation of the crash by IRVFC found that the SUV was traveling on Mount Joy Road when, for unknown reasons, it left the roadway, striking the utility box and overturning.
While on scene, responders located another vehicle further north on the same street, buried in a wooded area. Crews investigated and found the vehicle to be unoccupied. IRVFC says it appears the second vehicle had been involved in an accident during the overnight hours, with the occupant fleeing the scene.
Delaware State Police are reportedly investigating.
