(SEAFORD, Del) – People say better late than never, and one Delaware community is taking that to heart.

The Seaford community is painting the town red, white and blue, like the light posts here on High Street as the town holds their America 250 celebration this weekend.

But why are they holding a celebration nearly two weeks after Independence Day?

Seaford City Manager, Charles Anderson answered that question for us. He says, “We specifically, worked with the Downtown Seaford Association group to, plan it that way. We wanted to have everybody be able to go to the Laurel celebration and some of the other celebrations on the 4th of July. So, those are over now. So come to Seaford.”

The town is combining the best of their July 4th celebration, as well as their returning Riverfest, the first since 2021.

The Downtown Seaford Association is planning the festivities, both on High Street, and on the waters of the Nanticoke River.

Downtown Seaford Association President, Alice Adkins tells WMDT, “…The River Fest, had brought a lot of people, like thousands of people were probably talking maybe 4 or 5000 people probably coming downtown…we want to make sure that, you know, anything special like this that comes up, we initialize it and have it here on downtown’s on High Street.”

And being able to celebrate from the Nanticoke and throughout downtown with more than 50 local businesses is the Seaford way of doing things.

“So we find it just fitting, you know, that that this is our place, our town, to do something very special for safer and for to bring the community together,” says Alice.

Festivities will kick off at noon this Saturday on High Street in Seaford, and run until 9 P.M.
