Infrastructure front and center during Wicomico County Legislature meeting
SALISBURY, Md. – The Wicomico County legislature met Friday, discussing issues they want to see addressed in the next legislative session in Annapolis.
The Wicomico County Executive, members of the council, and representatives from local towns including Pittsville and Hebron discussed what they wanted to raise as key issues as part of the Eastern Shore delegation. They say it’s a crucial group for making sure this part of the state isn’t overlooked in favor of wealthier districts, and to make sure the rural areas can receive the help they need.
Wicomico County Council President Larry Dodd tells us an upgrade to infrastructure is high on that list.
“Biggest issues for us in Wicomico County is water and sewer, that’s next on our agenda because we have failing septic systems and water supply systems that are failing so it’s always a big issue and now is the time to do something about it,” he said.
Dodd tells us, other key issues discussed at the meeting included wider access to strong internet speeds on the eastern shore. He says a year of online learning highlighted the issue of dead zones for high-speed service for certain communities and hopes to secure state funding this session to help build new infrastructure and lines to those areas to bump internet speeds.
