expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal

* WHEN...From 4 PM this afternoon to midnight EDT tonight.

* IMPACTS...At this level, widespread roadway flooding occurs in
coastal and bayside communities and along inland tidal
waterways. Many roads become impassable. Some damage to
vulnerable structures may begin to occur.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Spotty minor tidal flooding may occur
through early Tuesday afternoon, with additional lingering minor
tidal flooding possible from late Tuesday night into Wednesday.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. If
travel is required, do not drive around barricades or through
water of unknown depth.

* WHERE...Chesapeake Bay from Drum Point MD to Smith Point VA,
Tidal Potomac from Cobb Island MD to Smith Point VA and
Tangier Sound and the inland waters surrounding Bloodsworth
Island.

* WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...Conditions will be hazardous to small craft.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller
vessels, should avoid navigating in hazardous conditions.

Statement, there is a high risk of rip currents. For the High
Surf Advisory, large breaking waves of 7 to 9 feet expected in
the surf zone.

* WHERE...Eastern Worchester County including Ocean City and
Assateague.

* WHEN...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, until 11 PM EDT this
evening. For the Beach Hazards Statement, through this evening.
For the High Surf Advisory, from 1 PM this afternoon to 8 PM EDT
Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...Shallow flooding is expected in the most vulnerable
locations near the waterfront and shoreline resulting in a low
threat of property damage. Expect up to one foot of water
above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas. Some roads
and low lying property including parking lots, parks and lawns
near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding. Large
breaking waves of 7 to 9 ft will result in dangerous surf
conditions. Do not enter or approach the water due to the risk
of being swept away.

closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of
unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone
property.

Life-threatening rip currents. If caught in a rip current, remain
calm. Swim in a direction following the shoreline. If tired,
float or tread water until out of the rip current. If unable to
escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.

Shore break occurs when waves break directly on the beach. It is
extremely important to protect your head and neck whenever you
are in breaking waves by keeping your hands in front of you at
all times.

Strong longshore currents can sweep swimmers and surfers into rip
currents, piers, jetties and other hazardous areas. In many
cases, the longshore current is strong enough to prevent swimmers
from being able to keep their feet on the bottom making it
difficult to return to shore.
