UPDATE: Sheriff Lewis speaks with WMDT following historic re-election

WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis has won re-election, making him the longest serving Sheriff in Maryland history.

Sheriff Lewis claimed over 55 percent of the vote, while his opponent, Lana Foley, garnered 44 percent of the vote. This will be Lewis’ sixth term.

Lewis has previously told WMDT that local law enforcement should be able to work with any federal agency, including ICE, and has also stated his priority for school safety.

“We serve everyone. And I’m looking forward to reaching across the aisle with everyone, regardless of political affiliation and getting the job done for the betterment of this county,” Sheriff Lewis said in an interview with WMDT on Wednesday. “And, I’m very much looking forward to working with the new county executive to achieve the same goals that I’ve been able to achieve for the last 20 years. And we’re going to keep moving forward because the citizens expect that from us.”

The results in this election, with all 69 election day precincts reporting, were as follows:
