Young students peacefully rally for climate change

GEORGETOWN, Del. – A group of high school and young college students gathered at Georgetown circle on Friday afternoon to demand action for climate change.

We’re told, Fridays for Future Delaware is a part of a global movement to ask local, state, and world leaders to act on global warming. Jack Thompson, President of the Delaware group tells 47 ABC, he wants this peaceful rally to drive change and open the conversation to ways to actively address climate change; whether that be through fossil fuels, or getting rid of plastic products.

He says the actions now are going to affect his and future generations, and something must be done. “A transition towards a greener world that’s more sustainable for us as the younger generation, we don’t want to have to be dealing with these problems as we get into our adult lives,” says Thompson. He adds, “That we have to be the ones to do this, and more people aren’t doing this already. It shouldn’t come from a high school student to be driving change but I’m happy to do it.”

Thompson also tells us, they plan to be a part of these peaceful rallies every Friday. They’re also preparing for the National conference on climate change in Scotland from October 31st to November 12th.

They say these actions as a part of the global movement, will hopefully reach the ears of world leaders by then.
