Delmarva flood updates

Throughout Delmarva, as the cold front from the west met with TROPICAL CYCLONE MATTHEW, it caused some rain in the Eastern Shore. Flood warnings are placed across parts of Delmarva until overnight hours. Some roads were closed as other areas had high-standing waters on the road.

In Kent County, one bridge near Harrington was washed out. Route 14 will remain closed until the bridge is replaced. Due to flooding in Sussex County, all area yards have at least one supervisor in. No bridges were closed but Snake Road in Bethel was; due to high water. In Maryland, Snowhill road near West Hill drive was closed because of high water as well as Worcester Highway near Langmaid Road.

In Virginia, from the Maryland line to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel, primary roads are passable. But on Route 13, the standing water caused the road to reduce to one lane. Both counties are experiencing flooding. 47 ABC spoke to Virginia’s Department of Transportation about road clean.

“While Matthew appears to have moved out of the region motorists are advised against any unnecessary travel this will allow our work crews to get in and clear the roads of water and debris as quickly as possible,” explains VDOT representative, Paula Miller.

Miller says a number of the secondary roads are still closed due to flooded roadways. She also states there have been several trees that have gone down and Vdot crews have been tending to both the trees and the flooded roads issues.
