Millsboro woman helping hundreds this holiday season with initiative called Katelyn’s Giving Tree

DELAWARE- A Millsboro woman is giving back to the community in a bigger way than she ever imagined with an initiative called Katelyn’s Giving Tree.

Sharon Klosowski and her daughter, Elissa, started Katelyn’s Giving Tree in 2018 when her granddaughter, Katelyn, passed away.

This project was a way for them to get through the holidays, by giving gifts to teens going through situations, like bullying.

In 2019, the pair wanted to grow the initiative, but unfortunately that didn’t happen because Elissa ended up passing away as well that year.

Now, Klosowski said she wanted to start the project up again this year.

She is giving gifts to children, as well as women who have experienced domestic violence.

She said she only planned on helping around 20 people this year, but with the help of the community she’ll be helping around 300 instead.

“They’ve done so much for not only these kids and these women, but for me personally I know Christmas morning instead of being sad and lonely I’m going to be thinking about over 300 people smiling because of what we all did together,” Sharon Klosowski, said.

Klosowski said she’s partnering with organizations to be able to make this happen and people have sent her so many donations.

We’re told the next drop off will be on Monday at Child Inc. in Wilmington, and then on Friday she’ll be headed to the Domestic Violence Services of Lancaster.
