Gov. Carney signs executive order to help with storm recovery

DELAWARE – Thursday, Delaware Governor John Carney signed Executive Order 44 to help with storm recovery efforts in the state. The order creates the Delaware Resilience Fund Program. The fund will help with repairs needed due to recent strong storms – including Isaias. “In light of the tornadoes and storms that we had earlier this month, I will be signing the executive order that will establish a resilience fund similar to the one that we had proposed in this year’s budget,” said Gov. Carney.

The fund would help those that are not covered by homeowner’s insurance. It would also provide DelDOT with more resources to repair local roads damaged by the storms. Governor Carney says although the fund won’t cover all expenses – it’ll help to make Delaware more prepared for damaging storms in the future. “This won’t cover everything, as we know. The first hope is that any emergency funds that we might get through FEMA, insurance coverage from homeowners. Obviously we have existing expenditures that have already taken place with the work that DelDOT has been doing – along with other agencies.,” said Gov. Carney.

Gov. Carney says the fund will be created using already existing money in the state’s budget. During the signing, Gov. Carney asked Delawareans to create preparedness plans in case they are hit by strong storms again in the future.
