Cambridge Begins Work on Clock Tower Renovations

(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – The city of Cambridge is beginning work on a familiar historic site downtown.

Crews will be working on the city’s Historic City Hall throughout this month, focusing on the building’s clock tower.

Plans to revamp the historic building have been in the works for years, with the clock tower being one of the focal points, alongside facade improvements.

City Manager Glenn Steckman spoke with WMDT about the ongoing work.

Glenn tells us, “The council approved a painting contractor to come in to repaint. The areas that can be painted, not the brick, obviously, but the wooden areas. And it’s also going to be allowing us to fix some of the pieces of wood that have fallen off the clock tower.”

The building has been unoccupied since the late 2000s, and the city says they’re trying to maintain the building for potential new uses.

“And during that period of time, the city has had to put a roof on the building. And now we are making sure that the building, you know, while we’re expecting other people to maintain their buildings, we are demonstrating that we are going to maintain the exteriors of our buildings,” says Glenn.
