Rehoboth Beach changes mask requirements
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – In Rehoboth Beach – the mayor and county commissioners voted to relax their order on wearing masks on the beach and boardwalk. The motion – which was passed unanimously – changes the mandatory mask requirement while people are on the beach and when they are exercising. Now people will only be required to wear a mask on the beach when they can’t socially distance and when they enter and leave the beach.
The changes do not apply to the boardwalk where masks will still be required at all times. Today during the meeting Mayor Paul Kuhns also responded to a letter sent by the Dewey Beach and Rehoboth Beach Chamber of Commerce claiming the mask ordinance was only meant to reduce the number of visitors to the town. “Suggesting that this is a failed tactic to purposely reduce the number of visitors to our town is extremely upsetting when all we have done since mid March is to put the health and safety of our citizens, our community, and our city staff priority,” said Mayor Kuhns.
The commissioners and mayor have set their next meeting for next Tuesday. That’s when they plan to discuss whether changes to outdoor dining are necessary.
