Salisbury Requests More Time in Ongoing Green Street Housing Dispute

WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. — Last week, Green Street Housing broadened its lawsuit against the city of Salisbury and Mayor Randy Taylor, seeking more than $5 million in damages.

Now, the city has filed a motion requesting a 30-day extension. Taylor says the city needs more time to get an additional attorney up to speed on the case.

He reiterated that his concerns about the development center on its parking plans, saying they do not comply with city parking requirements.

“On both projects, not just them, but Marina Landing as well. You know, we want a project to occur there. We absolutely do. But it needs to make sense from a parking perspective. We can’t out of the gate, build a project that’s so under park that’s going to impact neighboring properties, which is actually, a devaluing process for the for the for the neighbors next door. I mean, that that hurts their value. So, we can’t have that,” Mayor Taylor said.

Green Street Housing developer David Layfield said his opposition to the extension was filed hours after the city’s request.

The request follows a previous 190-day delay. Layfield hopes the Salisbury City Council will step in.

“The City of Salisbury needs affordable housing. I have shovels ready to put in this ground today, and he is simply delaying the construction because that’s what he does. Randy Taylor’s never built a thing in this town and I would say to the City council, if Randy Taylor is not going to build something, then they should,” Layfield said.
