Rehoboth Beach to remove some barricades on Rehoboth Avenue
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – Rehoboth Beach commissioners voted to remove at least some of the barricades on Rehoboth Avenue. Some of the barricades will remain in place for restaurants that have requested space for outdoor dining. However, the removal of the rest of them will free up about 130 parking spaces.
The commissioners say they made the adjustment after listening to feedback from the public and the business community. They say they hope removing some of the barriers will help with foot traffic in the area. 27 “Their biggest concern is not about having a parking spot in front of the store. It’s about easy access for the pedestrians going by to be able to look in the store and entice one to come in and look at their products and look at their windows,” said commissioner Richard Byrne.
The other barriers will remain in place until July 31st. Restaurants can still submit applications to use city sidewalks as outdoor seating. It will cost about $2,000 to adjust the walkways created by the barriers – and the city says they’re looking for federal reimbursement.
