Governor Carney issues update guidance for churches amid coronavirus pandemic

WILMINGTON, Del. – Governor John Carney has issued updated guidance for churches and other houses of worship in Delaware during the coronavirus pandemic.

We’re told the new guidance encourages virtual services but expands the ability for churches and other houses of worship to conduct in-person services with restrictions. Gatherings must be limited to 30 percent of stated fire code occupancy. Strict social distancing will be required, and anyone 13 years or older must wear a face covering. Children aged two and under should not wear a face covering due to risk of suffocation. High-risk individuals, including those over 65-years-old and those who are sick should not attend in-person services.

Services or gatherings must be staggered to allow for cleaning of public spaces between services. Exchange of materials of any kind during services is strongly discouraged. Baptisms, weddings, and funerals will be permitted if the services can follow the precautions listed above.
