Navigational Buoys Wash Up on Sussex Beaches Amidst Rough Tides

SUSSEX COUNTY, Del. – The U.S. Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay says they have received reports of three large navigational buoys that washed up on Sussex County beaches.

The buoys are reported to have washed up in beaches near Dewey and South Bethany. This comes amidst large wind gusts causing rough tides and unusually large swells. Responders are currently working to determine exactly which buoys they are and their assigned positions. Notifications will be made to the maritime community to communicate their absence through Local Notices to Mariners and other channels.

For safety reasons, the Coast Guard requests that the public please refrain from playing on, climbing, or attempting to move the buoys. The displaced buoys will be recovered for refurbishment or recycling, and new buoys will be be placed on their assigned stations as soon as possible.
