EASTON, Md. — A Talbot County man has been arrested on multiple felony charges following an investigation into the alleged physical abuse of his 8-day-old child last year.

The Talbot County Sheriff’s Office said 30-year-old Shayan A. Latif, of Queen Anne, is charged with first-degree child abuse, second-degree child abuse, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and child neglect.

According to investigators, the investigation began on Nov. 19, 2025, after Latif brought his 8-day-old child to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton. Authorities said Latif noticed the child’s head was swollen and that the infant was lethargic after being awakened around 5 a.m. Rather than calling emergency services, he drove the child to the hospital. Doctors determined the infant had multiple injuries consistent with abuse, and the child was later transferred to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore for specialized care.

Over the following months, detectives conducted dozens of interviews, reviewed electronic evidence, developed a timeline of events and consulted with experts from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Investigators ultimately identified Latif as the person responsible for the child’s injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities obtained an arrest warrant in June 2026. Latif was arrested July 9 and taken to the Talbot County Central Booking Facility, where he was initially held without bond. During a bail review hearing on July 10, a Talbot County District Court judge ordered that he remain held without bond.

The investigation involved the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, the Talbot County Department of Social Services, the Talbot County State’s Attorney’s Office, the Cambridge Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office.
