Airbnb Report Shows Increased Search Volume For Coastal Towns
MARYLAND- Rental company Airbnb reported that they are currently seeing a 20% increase in search interest in beach towns among families this summer.
Nathan Rotman is the director of policy strategy for Airbnb, and says these statistics can be applied to an increase in Maryland beaches.
“And what we’re also finding is 54% of Maryland coastal searches are coming from families.” Rotman said. “These are families looking for short term rentals on Airbnb, and why? Because they have multiple bedrooms and because it is generally more affordable to travel in a short term rental as a family.”
The report showed that in nearly 27% of Maryland coastal towns, Airbnbs are often the only affordable accommodation option where families can spend, on average, less than $300 a night on a two bedroom accommodation.
The report also mentioned how the increased search volume will affect Airbnb hosts who rent out their homes.
“We’re seeing kind of growth of searches for Airbnbs this summer, like the searches are up 20% that leads automatically to bookings.” Rotman said. “So we’d encourage people with extra space in their home, with a vacation home they may not be using full time, to think about earning extra income.”
Airbnb included Ocean City in their “Coast More, Pay Less” campaign, which highlighted family friendly, yet affordable, destinations.
