Lower Delaware Sees Increase in Traffic-Related Deaths
(SUSSEX CO. Del) – Delaware traffic-related deaths have been on the rise lately, and one group is working towards trying to find a solution.
This comes after what defensive driving group, the Delaware Safety Council says was one of the deadliest 12 hours on Delaware roads in sice years.
With five traffic-related deaths recorded in the First State between the evening of May 5th, and the morning of May 6th.
The groups’ Executive Director says there’s been a rise in vehicle deaths in Sussex and Kent Counties throughout the year.
“…but when you’re as small as our state and 36 and 38 deaths are your own, are your own citizens. It was very concerning. And of those 38, Kent and Sussex together, made up half of that,” says Executive Director, Stacey Inglis.
It’s why the Delaware Safety Council is meeting with other defensive driving advocacy groups to discuss how they can meet with their state agencies to reduce those driving deaths and keep the roads safe for everyone from Sussex to NewCastle County.
Stacey tells WMDT, “Every one of those fatality numbers that we spoke of is a person. And every one of every one of those deaths is preventable if we work together.”
Inglis says there have been around 19 traffic-related deaths between Kent and Sussex Counties.
