Relay For Life
SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury University held their 25th relay for life fundraising event on April 24th.
The fun kicked off around 4pm, and went on until 10pm. Forty-Five student teams set up tables in this fun event where there were games, line dancing, an inflatable obstacle course and even a live band. Local business have also given some donations to their auction, including Playabowls, Crumbl, local auto stores, hotels and restaurants including Spain Wine Bar.
Afterwards, around 8pm, the students walked a survivor lap in honor of cancer survivors. Executive Director and President of the Relay for Life club, Samantha Watson says the most special part of the night is the luminary bags.
“It’s the only lap that is silent, and we set up the bags around the outside of the track, and we light them like as the sun is setting. It’s kind of like a time to really remember, like why we’re here because we’ve lost people to cancer,” Watson said.
The University’s mission is to raise money to support the American Cancer Society and to support those that are fighting cancer. So far, the fundraiser has raised 1.7 million dollars with hopes to raise more in the future. You can sign up for a relay, or if you’re a student you can join their Relay for Life club.
