Indian Village Playground Ribbon Cutting

SALISBURY, Md – Wicomico Park and Recreation officials gathered at the Indian Village playground to celebrate its rebranding which was made possible with the help of grants and community ideas. The 18 month project was celebrated with music, games and food.

“We’re super excited for the ribbon to be cut finally! It was actually a very quick process with the grant funding that we were able to find. The community engagement, I think, was the most important piece to us.” Deputy Director James Simmons said. “We don’t want it to look brand new forever. We want it to get scuff marks on it. We want kids to be out here and playing and using it, and people using the pavilion and the grills and all those good things.”

The revamp includes an ADA compliant bathroom, a new basketball court, swings and a walking path with plans to bring in benches, grills and security lighting in the future.
All of the ideas of the park came from people residing in the West District of Wicomico County who wanted a safe area for friends and family to gather. Shawn Tucker, who is on the parks and rec commission, said with all of the construction happening, it was important to include the west side of Salisbury to represent Wicomico County as a whole.

“I grew up in this area. I grew up on the west side of Salisbury, so it’s near and dear to my heart.” Tucker said. “We just want this part utilized in the right way and obviously take care of it.”

There is a master plan set in place for Emerson Holloway Park as well. To attend the public meeting, it will be held on April 29th at 6 p-m at the Stone Grove Crossing Apartment complex. To keep up with Wicomico Parks and Recreation, visit their website.
