(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – A beloved Cambridge museum reopens their doors this weekend to show the public the progress they’ve made recovering from damages.

It was last May when a pipe burst inside the museum causing so much damage that they had to close down…

And now the Harriet Tubman Museum is nearly back to its former glory, thanks in part to an outpouring of community support.

Museum Director, Linda Harris tells WMDT, “…Last year I did 210 walking tours. Each time a person walked with us, they were they paid for it. And we used those funds to help finance, what we’re doing here. So we’ve been very active.”

That burst pipe might have been a blessing in disguise for the museum staff, as it’s allowing them the opportunity to truly upgrade the Harriet Tubman Museum. Including a new series of murals that will line the interior.

“I think this is an important part of, of modernizing, the museum for viewers to come in and see it. You know, it’s going to be a very big draw. So, it’s extremely exciting…” says muralist, Michael Rosato.

For Harris and the entire museum staff, the events over the last year are starting to feel like a distant memory….

She says, “When you conceptualize things and talk about them, put them on paper, figure out the cost, you never really visualize what it’s going to be. And this really what we’re seeing now exceeds our expectations. And we’re very excited.”

And they’re excited to continue adding on to the museum over the next few months.

The soft reopening of the museum starts at 12 P.M. on Saturday, March 28th.
