Two-Vehicle crash at Sussex County intersection sends one to hospital

INDIAN RIVER, DEL. – A two-vehicle crash Friday morning at the intersection of Indian Mission Road and Harmon’s Hill Road sent one person to a nearby hospital, according to emergency responders.

The crash occurred at about 8:37 a.m. on March 13. Crews from the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company and the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad were dispatched after reports of a collision involving two vehicles at the intersection.

Responding units included Chief 80 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard area and Engine 80 from the Long Neck area. Members of the Delaware State Fire Police also responded to assist with traffic control.

Officials said the crash involved a white Dodge Caravan and a maroon Toyota RAV4 that collided in the intersection, causing front-end damage to both vehicles. Both vehicles were disabled as a result of the crash.

Emergency crews worked to stabilize the patient and vehicles, manage leaking fluids and debris, control traffic and mitigate hazards at the scene.

One person was transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment. A small dog that was inside one of the vehicles was not injured and remained at the scene until its owner was able to retrieve it after emergency operations were completed.

Delaware State Police are investigating the crash.
