18-Year-Old student charged after making threat at Smyrna High School
SMYRNA, Del. — An 18-year-old Smyrna High School student was charged with terroristic threatening after police said he made a verbal threat against another student and was found with an object resembling a firearm, authorities said.
The Smyrna Police Department said its School Resource Officer was notified on Jan. 21 that a student had made threatening remarks toward another student on campus. Officers identified the suspect as Kassidy Brown of Smyrna and took him into custody without incident, police said. No injuries were reported.
During contact with Brown, officers discovered Brown was carrying a lighter that closely resembled a handgun, according to the department. Brown was immediately removed from the school and later charged with a Class A misdemeanor count of terroristic threatening.
Brown was released pending a future court hearing, and all suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court, police said.
